Amaravathi is a hit Tamil film starring Ajith and Sanghavi, and was Ajith’s debut film in Tamil. It was directed by Selva, and is original in the genre in featuring a humiliated hero. The film is also well-known for its hit songs. Vikram had done the Bakground Voice to Ajith. The film was deemed a hit at the box office.
Amaravathi had superhit songs which added the value of the film. Songs like " Puthen Puthu malare... and Tajmahal thevayillae..annamae annamae...Poo malarnthathu....still remain as evergreen hit.
